So pleased to see that The Northern Ontario Travel Magazine, the Official Magazine (digital) has created a fabulous article based on information from the Manitoulin Culinary Tourism website on places to shop on Manitoulin Island. They did a great job. It also includes links to all the places to stay, all the places to eat, things to see and do and both general and culinary events. With thanks for input from Manitoulin foodies who responded, identifying your favorite places to get fish tacos, and the fact you were able to identify businesses that go from East to West to South, I have now created a "Manitoulin Fish Taco Tour" on https://manitoulinculinarytourism.ca/manitoulin-island-fish-taco-tour/. Excellent. Now go out and travel this beautiful Island and try a fish taco.

Hello Manitoulin Island foodies: I have been asked to add another tour (currently I have the butter tart tour and the ice cream tour) on https://manitoulinculinarytourism.ca/. I have now been asked for a fish & chips tour but I was thinking, you can pretty much get fish and chips everywhere on Manitoulin Island but what about fish taco's? Where do you go for your fish taco's? My favorite right now - @anchorinnhotel . If I get enough people responding with where to find an excellent fish taco, I will create a tour. A follow up. Now that I have gotten through organizing and running the WOMEN conference the end of April, coordinated the 8 course tasting and high tea and helped at the Manitoulin Island Best Butter tart contest at the HCC show this past weekend, my mind will now turn to looking at the next new culinary event - the Manitoulin Maple Festival. As this will be a first it will take a LOT of assistance and volunteers to help make it a success. I know it's early and I will be reaching out again in September but this is just a first reach out to anyone who would like to assist with the creation of this new great event. Planned date so far is April 18, 2026. Please EMAIL ME (do not just put your info in a reply on facebook), to manitoulinculinarytourism@gmail.com as I need to create a list of interested people. The Manitoulin Health Centre Little Current Hospit

The Manitoulin Health Centre Little Current Hospital Auxiliary recently hosted a hugely successful High Tea, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd in support of local healthcare. Guests were treated to an elegant afternoon complete with beautifully set tables, fine china, and an assortment of delicious finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts. A variety of teas from Manitoulin Tea Company were served. The event was a delightful mix of community spirit and classic charm, with volunteers going above and beyond to create a welcoming and refined atmosphere with a guitarist adding a musical backdrop. Funds raised will go toward vital equipment and services at the Little Current Hospital, making this High Tea not only a memorable social gathering but also a meaningful contribution to local healthcare.

A behind the scenes look at the 8 Course Tasting dinner that took place this past Saturday during the Home, Cottage & Culinary show: It was a focused energy and creative collaboration, a team of chefs (Chef Simon DeSousa, Chef Louis Simard and Chef Kevin Hemstreet - all Manitoulin Island chefs) who worked side by side to plate 64 stunning dishes with precision and artistry. Each chef brought their unique skillset to the table—some expertly arranging delicate garnishes, others adding final touches of sauce or seasoning—all moving in seamless rhythm. The kitchen buzzed with quiet communication and mutual respect as they transformed ingredients into edible works of art. The result was a breathtaking display of culinary excellence, each plate a testament to teamwork, timing, and passion for the craft. Until the next event....

News from the Home, Cottage & Culinary show. We’re thrilled to announce the winners of the 2025 Manitoulin Island Best Butter Tart Contest! After much delicious deliberation, our judges have selected the top bakers who truly captured the perfect blend of flaky crust and gooey sweetness. Congratulations to Sara O'Conner from Stop 540 Diner for taking home the top prize with her classic recipe, Caleigh Quinlin from Bittersweet Tea Co came in second place, no third place business

A heartfelt thank you to all participants—your incredible baking made this a truly sweet success! Over 200 butter tarts were sold at the Stop 540 Buttertart booth (so those who bought were buying the winning tart, who knew!), but they SOLD OUT! Until next year

To enter you need to bring 1 dozen plain or raisin NO NUT butter tarts to the NEMI Recreation Centre in Little Current by 3pm. Judging starts at 6pm. Every time we spend a hard earned dollar on the Manitoulin Island a significant portion of that dollar stays within the community. Studies suggest that a large percentage, potentially two-thirds, of every dollar spent at local businesses remains in the area. This is because local businesses often use their profits to pay local employees, purchase goods and services from other local businesses, and contribute to the community's infrastructure.
